Target Information
Porcine neudesin neurotrophic factor (also known as BDNF) is a member of the neurotrophin family, which plays a vital role in the growth, survival, and differentiation of neurons in the peripheral and central nervous systems. In porcine models, BDNF has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in conditions such as traumatic optic neuropathy (TON). It is produced by both brain structures like the hippocampus and cerebral cortex, as well as skeletal muscles, and its levels can change in response to various forms of physical activity. BDNF is known to bind to tropomyosin kinase receptors (Trks), such as Trk-B, which are expressed by motoneurons (MNs). This interaction can lead to changes in the electrophysiological properties of MNs, reflecting their excitability.
