Target Information
Bovine sorbitol dehydrogenase (SDH), also known as L-iditol 2-dehydrogenase, is a key enzyme in the polyol pathway that interconverts glucose and fructose via sorbitol, providing an alternate route for glucose metabolism. It is a homotetramer containing one equivalent of zinc ion per subunit and is active on polyalcohols and keto-sugars with more than three carbon atoms. SDH is liver-specific in all species tested, and increased activity is indicative of hepatic injury, making it a valuable biomarker for acute hepatic disorders in cattle.
