Target Information
Porcine FXYD domain containing ion transport regulator 1, also known as phospholemman (FXYD1) or PLC-1, is a small membrane protein that belongs to the FXYD family of proteins. These proteins are characterized by the presence of a conserved FXYD domain and function as regulators of ion transport, particularly sodium and potassium ions, across cell membranes. As a molecular target, FXYD1 is significant due to its role in the regulation of cardiac and smooth muscle contractility. It modulates the activity of the sodium-potassium pump, known as the Na+/K+-ATPase, which is crucial for maintaining cellular ion homeostasis and, consequently, normal cell function. Dysregulation of FXYD1 has been implicated in various pathophysiological conditions, including hypertension and heart failure.
