Target Information
Porcine transferrin receptor protein 1 (TfR1) is a crucial receptor that plays a significant role in the entry of transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) into porcine intestinal epithelium. Highly expressed in piglets with anemia, TfR1 may be involved in TGEV infection, contributing to the high susceptibility of newborn pigs to the virus. The virus promotes TfR1 internalization and clustering, and its expression is down-regulated as TGEV infection proceeds. Inhibition of TfR1 with antibodies or by decreasing its expression can inhibit TGEV infection and replication, indicating that TfR1 serves as a receptor for TGEV, contributing specifically to virion binding and endocytosis, and determining TGEV tropism.
