Target Information

Bovine matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) is a key enzyme involved in the degradation of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and plays a significant role in tissue remodeling and inflammation in cattle. It is released by mammary epithelial cells and neutrophils during the involution process of the mammary gland, contributing to the loss of differentiation of mammary epithelial cells, apoptosis, and tissue involution. MMP-9 is also implicated in the acute inflammatory response, where it may participate in the clearance of hemoglobin-haptoglobin complexes, potentially influencing immune modulation and gene expression related to inflammation.
