Target Information
Canine clusterin, also known as apolipoprotein J, is a multifunctional glycoprotein involved in various biological processes. It is a disulfide-linked heterodimeric protein primarily known for its role in aiding protein folding and preventing aggregation of non-native proteins. Clusterin acts as an extracellular chaperone, protecting cells against apoptosis and cytolysis by complement. It is expressed in multiple tissues, including the kidneys, where it may serve as a biomarker for renal tubular injury. In dogs, elevated urinary clusterin levels have been associated with acute kidney injury, indicating its potential as an early diagnostic marker.
