Target Information
Porcine visinin-like 1 (pVSNL1), also known as recoverin, is a calcium-binding protein found in the retina of pigs. It belongs to the family of EF-hand proteins, which are known for their ability to bind calcium ions and are involved in various signaling pathways, particularly in the visual transduction process. pVSNL1 plays a crucial role in the photoreceptor cells of the retina, where it helps to regulate the light-dependent activation of phosphodiesterase, an enzyme that hydrolyzes cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). This regulation is essential for the recovery phase of the visual cycle, allowing the photoreceptor cells to return to their resting state after exposure to light.
