Target Information
Canine DAP kinase 2 (DAPK2) is a serine/threonine kinase that belongs to the death-associated protein kinase (DAPK) family, which is implicated in the regulation of apoptosis. This enzyme plays a critical role in cell death pathways, acting as a tumor suppressor by sensitizing cells to various apoptotic signals. DAPK2 has been shown to suppress cellular transformation at early stages of tumor development and to inhibit later metastatic events, making it a significant player in cancer research. In dogs, DAPK2's status in primary tumors is of interest due to its potential role in the development of B-cell malignancies, similar to its role in humans. Hypermethylation of the DAPK gene, leading to transcriptional silencing, has been reported in canine B-cell lymphoid tumors, highlighting the importance of DAPK2 in maintaining genomic stability and its potential as a therapeutic target in veterinary oncology.
