Target Information

Porcine fatty acid binding protein 2 (pFABP2) is a member of the fatty acid-binding protein (FABP) family, which are small, cytoplasmic proteins known for their ability to bind and transport long-chain fatty acids and other lipids within cells. pFABP2 is particularly expressed in the liver and intestine, playing a crucial role in lipid metabolism and energy homeostasis in pigs. This protein facilitates the diffusion of fatty acids across the cell, acting as a shuttle to deliver fatty acids to various metabolic pathways, including β-oxidation for energy production, esterification into triglycerides, or incorporation into phospholipids. pFABP2 also contributes to the regulation of gene expression involved in lipid metabolism.
