Target Information

Porcine glial fibrillary acidic protein (pGFAP) is an intermediate filament protein that is predominantly expressed in the astrocytes of the central nervous system in pigs. GFAP serves as a major structural component of the cytoskeleton in these star-shaped glial cells, which play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and function of the neural tissue. pGFAP is involved in various astrocyte-specific functions, including the regulation of extracellular matrix, ion homeostasis, and the provision of metabolic support to neurons. It is also implicated in the response to injury and disease in the brain, as its expression levels can change in response to inflammation, neurodegeneration, and other pathological conditions.
