Target Information

Porcine contactin 1, also known as F11 or the neuronal recognition molecule, is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily of cell adhesion molecules. It is predominantly expressed in the nervous system, where it contributes to the formation and stabilization of synapses, as well as to the guidance of neuronal migration during development. As a molecular target, Contactin 1 is significant for its role in the nervous system's structural integrity and function. It is implicated in the regulation of synaptic plasticity, which is essential for learning and memory processes. Given its involvement in synapse formation and maintenance, Contactin 1 could be a potential therapeutic target for neurological disorders where synaptic dysfunction is a key feature, such as Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, and autism spectrum disorders.
