Target Information

Bovine plasminogen activator urokinase (uPA) is a serine protease enzyme that plays a crucial role in the fibrinolytic system and inflammation. It is responsible for converting plasminogen into plasmin, which then degrades fibrin in the clot. In cattle, uPA is associated with casein micelles in milk and is bound to milk leukocytes, indicating its presence in both the vascular system and milk fractions. The enzyme also has clot-dissolving activity and is reported to function as an inflammatory mediator. uPA's activity is not only limited to thrombolysis but also extends to cell activation, tissue remodeling, and angiogenesis, highlighting its multifaceted role in bovine physiology and pathology.
