Target Information
Porcine S100 calcium binding protein B (pS100B) is a member of the S100 family of calcium-binding proteins, which are characterized by their ability to bind calcium ions and regulate a variety of cellular processes. pS100B is predominantly found in the brain and is involved in the development and maintenance of the nervous system in pigs. It is also expressed in other tissues, including the skin, where it contributes to the regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation. As a part of the EF-hand superfamily of proteins, pS100B modulates cellular functions through its interaction with target proteins upon calcium binding. It plays a role in processes such as cell cycle regulation, signal transduction, and the maintenance of cell shape and motility. In the nervous system, pS100B is implicated in neuronal survival, synaptic plasticity, and the response to injury.
