Feline IgA (immunoglobulin A) is a key antibody isotype that plays a crucial role in mucosal immunity in cats. It is predominantly found in secretions such as saliva, tears, and gastrointestinal mucus, where it functions as a first line of defense against pathogens. IgA helps neutralize viruses and bacteria at mucosal surfaces, preventing their adherence and invasion into host tissues. In addition to its protective role, feline IgA also contributes to immune tolerance by binding to harmless antigens and preventing overactive immune responses.
