Target Information

Porcine guanine nucleotide binding protein G subunit alpha-2 (GNAI2), also known as Gαi2, is a member of the inhibitory class of G protein alpha subunits, which are critical components in cell signaling pathways. GNAI2 plays a significant role in various physiological processes, including the modulation of adenylyl cyclase activity, thereby influencing cAMP formation. Recent studies have highlighted its role in the development of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), where it exacerbates the condition by regulating peroxiredoxin 1-related inflammation and lipophagy. This suggests that GNAI2 could be a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of NASH. In pigs, GNAI2 is expressed in various tissues and is involved in multiple biological processes, including lipid metabolism and inflammatory responses. Its role in these pathways positions it as a key regulator in the context of both liver disease and cardiovascular health, emphasizing its broad significance in porcine physiology and disease.
