Target Information

Chicken CD8β is a vital component of the avian immune system, specifically involved in the function of cytotoxic T lymphocytes, which are key players in cell-mediated immunity. As a part of the CD8 molecule, CD8β, together with CD8α, forms a heterodimer that is expressed on the surface of certain T cells. This heterodimer is crucial for the recognition of antigens presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules on the surface of infected or transformed cells. The interaction between CD8β and MHC class I molecules helps to activate T cells, leading to the initiation of an immune response against intracellular pathogens, such as viruses, and against tumor cells. This process is critical for the clearance of infections and for tumor surveillance in chickens.
