Target Information

Canine PIM kinase 2 (PIM2) is a serine/threonine kinase that plays a significant role in promoting cell survival and inhibiting apoptosis, with implications in various cancers. It is a member of the PIM kinase family, which also includes PIM1 and PIM3, and is associated with the Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent group of protein kinases. PIM2 is expressed at higher levels in the brain and lymphocytes and is linked to tumor progression, particularly through its involvement in cell-cycle regulation and resistance to apoptosis. This kinase has been identified as a potential therapeutic target due to its overexpression in multiple cancers and its association with poor prognosis in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). PIM2 is also involved in regulating energy metabolism in MM cells, suggesting that it directly influences glycolysis, energy production, and cell survival, which are critical for tumor growth and progression. Inhibition of PIM2 can decrease the proliferation of MM tumor cells and increase their susceptibility to apoptosis, highlighting its potential as a metabolic target for cancer treatment.
