Target Information

Porcine beta-synuclein (SNCB) is a member of the synuclein family, which also includes alpha-synuclein (αS) and gamma-synuclein (γS). These proteins are expressed early in the development of neurons in the substantia nigra, suggesting a role in neuronal development and maturation. Beta-synuclein has been shown to inhibit the aggregation of alpha-synuclein, which is closely associated with Parkinson's disease (PD) and is a major component of Lewy bodies, the pathological hallmarks of PD. In pigs, SNCB is highly abundant in brain tissues and is detected early in embryogenesis, with significant increases in transcript levels observed during embryo development. The protein has been localized to the cytoplasm and has been implicated in regulating synaptic function, lipid binding, and the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system. It also plays a role in mediating apoptosis and participating in protein degradation pathways.
