Target Information

Chicken E-cadherin, a homolog of the human E-cadherin, is a vital cell adhesion molecule in avian species that is integral to the structural integrity of epithelial tissues. Found on the cell surface, this glycoprotein facilitates strong cell-cell adhesion through calcium-dependent homophilic interactions, where the E-cadherin molecules on adjacent cells bind to each other, forming adherens junctions. In chickens, E-cadherin plays a critical role in embryonic development, tissue morphogenesis, and the maintenance of tissue homeostasis. It is particularly important in the development of the gastrointestinal tract, where it helps to establish and preserve the epithelial barrier against pathogens and other environmental stressors.
