Target Information

Canine ryanodine receptor (RyR) is a critical calcium release channel in cardiac and skeletal muscle, essential for excitation-contraction coupling. It is a macromolecular complex that includes kinases and phosphatases, with phosphorylation playing a key role in its regulation. Dysfunction of RyR, particularly RyR2 in the heart, can lead to conditions such as malignant hyperthermia and muscular dystrophy. In dogs, mutations in the RYR1 gene have been associated with malignant hyperthermia, highlighting the importance of RyR in canine health. Stabilizing RyRs has shown potential in improving cardiac function in canine models of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, indicating its therapeutic potential.
