Target Information

Canine polycystin 2 (PC2) is a calcium-permeable cation channel that plays a critical role in maintaining calcium homeostasis and is implicated in the pathogenesis of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). As a member of the TRP channel family, PC2 is involved in the regulation of intracellular calcium signaling and interacts with other ion channels, including the Inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate Receptor (InsP3R) and Ryanodine Receptor (RyR), modulating their activity. The dysfunction of PC2 leads to improper calcium levels, which are a major contributor to the development of ADPKD. It also acts as a physical modulator of numerous other ion channels, influencing their activity and thereby impacting cellular processes such as proliferation and apoptosis.
