Target Information

Smad5 is a protein that plays a pivotal role in the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) signaling pathway, a complex cascade that controls cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. As a receptor-regulated Smad, Smad5 is phosphorylated and activated by the TGF-β receptor upon ligand binding, subsequently forming a complex with Smad4 and translocating into the nucleus. In the nucleus, the Smad complex interacts with various transcription factors and co-regulators to modulate the expression of target genes. Smad5 is involved in the regulation of a wide array of biological processes, including embryonic development, tissue repair, and immune function.
