Target Information
Porcine acid ceramidase 1 (pASAH1), also known as acid ceramidase or ceramidease, is a key enzyme involved in the hydrolysis of ceramide to sphingosine and free fatty acids. This process is a critical step in the regulation of sphingolipid metabolism in pigs. pASAH1 is predominantly found in lysosomes and plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular homeostasis by controlling the levels of ceramide, a bioactive sphingolipid involved in various cellular processes. Ceramide is known to be a key player in the regulation of cell growth, differentiation, and apoptosis, and its levels are tightly controlled by enzymes such as pASAH1. Dysregulation of ceramide metabolism has been implicated in several diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders and certain types of cancer.
