Target Information
Porcine sortilin 1 (SORT1) is a multifaceted receptor protein that plays a significant role in various biological processes, including the sorting, trafficking, and clearance of proteins. It is particularly implicated in the regulation of neuronal viability and function, as well as in the progression of neurodegenerative diseases such as frontotemporal dementia (FTD). SORT1 acts as a clearance receptor for progranulin (PGRN), a protein whose haploinsufficiency is associated with FTD. The down-regulation of SORT1 has been shown to up-regulate PGRN levels, suggesting a therapeutic potential for antibodies targeting SORT1 in conditions related to PGRN deficiency.
