Target Information

Porcine Chromobox Protein Homolog 1 (CBX1), also known as HP1β, is a member of the heterochromatin protein family. It is enriched in heterochromatin and associated with centromeres, playing a crucial role in epigenetic control of chromatin structure and gene expression. CBX1 contains an N-terminal chromodomain that binds to methylated histone H3 tails at lysine-9 (H3K9me) and a C-terminal chromo shadow-domain (CSD) responsible for homodimerization and interactions with other chromatin-associated proteins. This protein is expressed in all adult and embryonic tissues and is involved in the formation of functional kinetochores through interactions with MIS12 complex proteins.
