Target Information
Canine serum albumin (CSA) is the main protein found in the plasma of dogs, known for its critical role in maintaining intravascular oncotic pressure and serving as a carrier for various compounds, including hormones, ions, and drugs. This multifunctional protein is essential for water and electrolyte balance, as well as for the transport of nutrients and metabolic byproducts. CSA is also a major zinc transporter in plasma, typically binding about 80% of all plasma zinc. Its concentration is used as a diagnostic biomarker for various diseases and can be administered therapeutically to combat hypoalbuminemia and hypovolemia in dogs.
