Target Information
Bovine myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heme peroxidase enzyme predominantly expressed in neutrophils and to a lesser extent in monocytes, playing a crucial role in the innate immune system of cattle. It is involved in the microbicidal system of phagocytes, catalyzing the formation of hypochlorous acid (HOCl), a potent oxidant molecule that is essential for microbial killing. MPO is also implicated in the pathogenesis of several diseases, including atherosclerosis, by oxidizing low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particles and contributing to the initiation and progression of the disease.
