Target Information
Cluster of differentiation 4 (CD4) is a glycoprotein that serves as a co-receptor for the T-cell receptor (TCR). CD4 is found on the surface of immune cells such as T helper cells, monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. In addition to the two populations of mutually exclusive CD4+/CD8- and CD4-/CD8+ lymphocytes, Swine also appear to have significant populations of CD4-/CD8- and CD4+/CD8+ cells. CD4 functions to initiate or augment the early phase of T-cell activation, and may function as an important mediator of indirect neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated diseases of the central nervous system.
