Target Information
Chicken IgM, or immunoglobulin M, is the first and foremost antibody produced in chickens in response to initial antigenic challenges. It is a crucial component of the avian immune system, characterized by its rapid production and high avidity for antigens. IgM is typically found in the serum and other body fluids, where it plays a pivotal role in the primary immune response by neutralizing pathogens and activating the complement system. As the largest immunoglobulin class in terms of molecular size, chicken IgM is composed of five or six basic units, which contribute to its effectiveness in binding and agglutinating foreign substances. The study of IgM is vital for understanding the early defense mechanisms in chickens, which can be critical in the context of disease prevention and control in poultry farming.
