Target Information
Porcine ubiquinol-cytochrome C reductase core protein I (pUQCRC1), also known as the core protein I of the cytochrome b-c1 complex, is a vital component of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. This protein plays a central role in the electron transport system, specifically within complex III of the chain, which is responsible for the transfer of electrons from ubiquinol to cytochrome c. pUQCRC1 is essential for the generation of the proton gradient across the mitochondrial inner membrane, which is a key step in the production of ATP through oxidative phosphorylation. This process is fundamental to cellular energy metabolism and is particularly important in tissues with high energy demands, such as the heart and skeletal muscle.
