Porcine nitrilase family member 2 (NIT2), also known as ω-amidase, is an enzyme that plays a significant role in metabolic processes. It is involved in the hydrolysis of nitriles, converting them into valuable organic amides and acids, which have industrial applications as drug precursors or fine chemicals. This enzyme is particularly important for its ability to catalyze the hydrolysis of α-ketoglutaramate and α-ketosuccinamate, yielding α-ketoglutarate and oxaloacetate, respectively.
