Target Information
Porcine formiminotransferase cyclodeaminase (pFTCD) is an enzyme that plays a pivotal role in the metabolism of histidine, an essential amino acid, in pigs. pFTCD is involved in the conversion of formiminoglutamate (FIGLU) to glutamate, which is a part of the histidine catabolic pathway. This conversion is crucial for the proper utilization and recycling of histidine within the body. The enzyme's function is particularly important for maintaining amino acid homeostasis and supporting various physiological processes, including the synthesis of other essential biomolecules and the regulation of the immune system. Disruptions in the activity of pFTCD or its associated metabolic pathways can lead to the accumulation of toxic metabolites and may be associated with certain metabolic disorders.
