Target Information

Bovine protein arginine methyltransferase 1 (PRMT1) is a type I enzyme that catalyzes the methylation of arginine residues on histone and non-histone proteins, playing a significant role in various physiological processes including gene expression, signal transduction, and cellular differentiation. This enzyme is particularly involved in the regulation of chromatin dynamics and transcriptional activity through its action on histone H4 at arginine 3 (H4R3), leading to asymmetric dimethylation (H4R3me2a) which is associated with active chromatin states. PRMT1's activity can be modulated by post-translational modifications of histones, such as acetylation, which can inhibit or promote its action depending on the specific histone marks present.
