Target Information
Porcine asialoglycoprotein receptor 1 (pASGPR1), also known as the hepatic lectin or asialoglycoprotein receptor, is a membrane-bound protein found primarily on the surface of hepatocytes in the liver. This receptor is responsible for the recognition and binding of circulating glycoproteins that have been desialylated, a modification that marks them for clearance from the bloodstream. pASGPR1 plays a crucial role in the liver's ability to remove and recycle glycoproteins, which is essential for maintaining homeostasis and preventing the accumulation of potentially harmful or unnecessary proteins. The receptor's specificity for desialylated glycoproteins allows for the selective uptake and degradation of these molecules, thereby regulating plasma glycoprotein levels.
