Target Information
Porcine transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) is a member of the Coronaviridae family that causes severe gastrointestinal disease in pigs, leading to significant morbidity and mortality, particularly in young piglets. The nucleoprotein (N) of TGEV is a structural protein that tightly binds to the viral RNA genome, forming the helical nucleocapsid, which is essential for viral replication and protection of the genetic material. The N protein is a potential target for antiviral therapies against TGEV due to its critical role in the viral life cycle. Inhibiting the N protein's function could disrupt the packaging and replication of the viral RNA, thereby limiting the spread of the virus within the host. Additionally, the N protein is an immunogenic component that can stimulate an immune response, making it a candidate for diagnostic assays and vaccine development.
