Target Information
POU class 5 homeobox 1 (POU5F1), also known as Oct-4, is a transcription factor encoded by the POU5F1 gene in pigs. This gene encodes a POU homeodomain transcription factor that plays a key role in embryonic development and stem cell pluripotency. Aberrant expression of this gene in adult tissues is associated with tumourigenesis. OCT4, encoded by POU5F1, plays a critical role in maintaining the pluripotency of embryonic stem cells during early embryonic development. It is expressed in embryonic stem cells where it regulates pluripotency and proliferation.
