Target Information
Coagulation factor VII triggers the extrinsic pathway of blood coagulation. Minor proteolysis by factor Xa, factor XIIa, factor IXa, or thrombin converts factor VII into its active form, factor VIIa. In the presence of tissue factor and calcium ions, factor VIIa converts factor X to factor Xa through limited proteolysis and can also convert factor IX to factor IXa under similar conditions. In rabbits, the F7 gene encodes this protein. The function of FVII has been extensively studied in rabbit models. For example, in the case of atherosclerotic plaque rupture or vascular injury, the binding of FVII to TF is thought to be one of the initial steps in thrombosis.
