Target Information
Fibrinopeptides, known as fibrinopeptide A (FpA) and fibrinopeptide B (FpB), are peptides situated in the central region of the fibrous glycoprotein fibrinogen (factor I). These peptides are cleaved by the enzyme thrombin (factor IIa) to transform fibrinogen into covalently-linked fibrin (factor IA) monomers. FpA consists of a 16-amino acid peptide. FpA may play an anticoagulant-like role in the coagulation process in rabbits. It was found that plasma levels of FpA were significantly elevated in rabbits under certain conditions (e.g., DIC or systemic lupus erythematosus), suggesting that FpA may play a role in regulating the balance between coagulation and anticoagulation.
