Target Information
Rabbits are important as models for studying human health and pregnancy. Studies have shown that the stages of pregnancy and embryonic development in rabbits have many similarities with humans. Progesterone is a naturally occurring steroid and progestogen sex hormone that plays a role in the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and embryogenesis in humans and other species. Extensive evidence gathered over the past six decades has demonstrated that estradiol has a predominant stimulatory effect on the production of progesterone by luteal tissue in pseudopregnant or pregnant rabbits, starting around five days post-ovulation.
