Target Information
Bovine aggrecan is a large proteoglycan found in cartilage and other tissues, characterized by a core protein with covalently attached glycosaminoglycan (GAG) chains, primarily chondroitin sulfate and keratan sulfate. It plays a crucial role in providing mechanical resilience and load-bearing capacity to cartilage tissues, contributing to their shock-absorbing properties and resistance to compression. Aggrecan's GAG chains also contribute to the hydration of cartilage, which is essential for its function.
