Target Information

Calprotectin, which is an S100 calcium-binding protein with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity in vitro, is expressed in neutrophils, monocytes and gingival keratinocytes. Calprotectin serves as a biomarker to measure inflammation levels in the intestines. It can help distinguish between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is a non-covalently complexed heterodimer of two small anionic proteins, MRP8 and MRP14.
