Target Information
Acetyl-CoA Acetyltransferase, Mitochondrial is an enzyme located in the mitochondrial matrix, catalyzing the formation of acetoacetyl-CoA from two acetyl-CoA molecules, a key step in ketone body synthesis. It is found within the mitochondrial matrix. ACAT1 contributes to ketone body production, an alternative energy source for the body, particularly during periods of fasting or starvation. It is encoded by the ACAT1 gene in cattle. It is an integral membrane protein with multiple transmembrane domains.
