Target Information
ATPIF1 is also known as ATPase inhibitor, mitochondrial. In mitochondria, the hydrolytic activity of ATP synthase is regulated by an inhibitor protein, IF1. Alternative splicing occurs at this locus, and three transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified. It prevents ATPase from switching to ATP hydrolysis during the collapse of the electrochemical gradient, for example, during oxygen deprivation. Bovine IF1 is a basic protein of 84 amino acids. It has been shown to have two oligomeric states, tetramer and dimer, which are favoured by pH values above and below 6.5 respectively.
