Target Information
Bovine Bone Morphogenetic Protein 15 is encoded by the BMP15 gene in cattle. This gene encodes a secreted ligand of the TGF-beta (transforming growth factor-beta) superfamily of proteins. Ligands of this family bind various TGF-beta receptors leading to recruitment and activation of SMAD family transcription factors that regulate gene expression. It plays critical roles in folliculogenesis, follicular development and ovulation in mammalian ovaries. Research has shown that BMP15 and GDF9 mRNA expression in oocytes and cumulus cells is different in calves and cows.
