Target Information
3-Hydroxyanthranilate 3,4-dioxygenase is an enzyme involved in the kynurenine pathway, which plays a critical role in tryptophan metabolism. It is a non-heme iron-dependent enzyme. By breaking down 3-Ohaa, it contributes to the formation of quinolinic acid (QUIN), another metabolite in the pathway. Bovine 3-Hydroxyanthranilate 3,4-Dioxygenase is encoded by the HAAO gene in cattle. It is the enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 3-hydroxyanthranilate to quinolinic acid. The catalytic mechanism is most likely conserved across species.
