Target Information
Hemopexin is encoded by the HPX gene in cattle. It is a glycoprotein with one high affinity binding site for heme. It is believed to function as a transporter for intravascular heme, delivering the heme to the liver for uptake into the parenchymal cells by means of a specific cell receptor for the heme-hemopexin complex.
