Insulin-Degrading Enzyme (IDE), also known as insulysin or insulin protease, is a remarkable enzyme with diverse functions. IDE belongs to the M16 metalloprotease family. It is a large zinc-binding protease. Bovine Insulin-Degrading Enzyme is encoded by the IDE gene in cattle. It has a prominent role in the clearance of insulin as well as of other molecules such as amyloid-beta.
