Target Information

Bovine Keratin, Type I Cytoskeletal 17 is encoded by the KRT17 gene in cattle. KRT17 belongs to the family of type I (acidic) cytokeratins, which are part of the intermediate filament (IF) proteins. These keratins form the intermediate filament network along with actin microfilaments and microtubules, composing the cytoskeleton of epithelial cells. KRT17 is upregulated together with KRT6/16 in response to epidermal barrier disruption and stimulates proliferation, cell adhesion, migration and inflammatory features.
