Target Information
Bovine Mitochondrial Uncoupling Protein 3 is encoded by the UCP3 gene in cattle. UCP3 is a member of the larger family of mitochondrial anion carrier proteins (MACP). These proteins facilitate the transfer of anions from the inner to the outer mitochondrial membrane and protons from the outer to the inner mitochondrial membrane. UCP3, which is primarily expressed in skeletal muscle and up-regulated by fatty acids, plays an important role in muscle. This protein is one of the major target proteins involved in skeletal muscle energy metabolism and plays a key regulatory role in mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation.
