Target Information
The vitamin D receptor is encoded by the chicken VDR gene. VDR is expressed in various tissues, including the kidneys, duodenum, hair follicles, and jejunal mucosa. It influences processes related to calcium homeostasis, bone health, and immune function. The avian VDRs differ from the mammalian VDRs not only by 10-20% in the primary protein sequence. Upon binding calcitriol, VDR forms a heterodimer with the retinoid-X receptor.
